Pigs, lambs, goats, steer, and veal were going for anywhere from $4/lb (live weight) to $8/lb - not including the wacky outliers of $16 or $20/lb bids. Even at the cheapest bid, we figured it would be $2/lb for an animal, which doubles after you add in processing and disposal, etc.
Salmon wiggle was a home made cream sauce, canned salmon and peas...I alway thought my dad made the name up! since we're talking about late 40's/early 50's, it was probably canned peas ( somehow LeSeur Baby Peas springs in to the old memory bank).

Like so many terms in British English, it's possible that the use of "cuppa" is at least partly dictated by class/socioeconomic level. I've certainly heard it used by some of my English relatives/friends who live in the South but not by others, and never by the ones who live in the North and are quite well off.

True, but cover art used to be interesting and iconic, I can't think of any recent (last 10 years) album arts that are praised. Remember the sg. pepper art, pink floyd art, daft punks debut album? They're all known as pretty much transcending album art, to being culture symbols. I still think there's a lot of cool album art being made today.
